

Sometimes hardship breeds creativity, sometimes we just need to feel horrible and cry it out. If you grieve or struggle without "something to show for it" that's fine. In recognizing that fact though, we can of course get trapped into thinking that we have to mine value and extract content from every aspect of our lives, that suffering without productivity is a waste, so I need to emphasize that it's absolutely not. I do believe that sometimes the emotional energy we expend under trying circumstances can be transformed into good things when we have the capacity, so I hope that is what I've accomplished. Hearing it still carries a lot of ugly weight, but overcoming it feels like a lifted burden and I finally feel the glimmer of catharsis that I had always hoped for.
